Prominent human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has appealed to Nigerians for urgent financial support to aid the relocation and rehabilitation of Quadri Yusuf Alabi and his family, citing imminent threats to their lives.
In a statement released following Alabi’s recent release from detention, Effiong revealed that the situation has become increasingly precarious for the young man and his family, who currently reside in Amukoko, Lagos.
“Following my discussion with the family of Quadri Alabi and at their request, I hereby appeal to all conscientious organizations, individuals, and corporate entities to offer immediate financial assistance to Quadri to enable him and his family relocate from their present community and home,” Effiong pleaded.

He stressed that Amukoko, the neighborhood where Alabi and his family reside, is no longer safe. “Amukoko is no longer safe for them, those behind his travails can easily target him or his family members again,” he warned, emphasizing the urgency of the matter.

Effiong disclosed that Quadri and his family have continued to receive threats even after his court-ordered release. “This appeal has become imperative due to active threats to Quadri and his family. As at this morning, they still received threats,” he said.
In light of the escalating threats, Effiong confirmed that immediate steps had been taken to ensure their temporary safety. “Upon the release of Quadri at the court, it became apparent that it is no longer safe for them to return to their home. Due to the urgency and severity of the situation, we have paid for and lodged them in a hotel for tonight,” he stated.
The lawyer further highlighted the plight of Quadri’s mother, a widow and petty trader, who has also made an emotional plea to Nigerians for help.
“Quadri’s mother who is a ‘petty trader’, has also pleaded with Nigerians to assist her financially to enable her cater for herself and her children. Her husband (Quadri’s father) is deceased,” Effiong noted.
Effiong also emphasized the importance of rehabilitating Quadri to ensure a brighter future. “Finally, we need to rehabilitate Quadri for him to be useful to himself and the society. He has expressed a desire to go to school. He is also open to acquiring a skill,” he added.
Reaffirming his commitment to transparency and accountability, Effiong assured that any funds donated would be responsibly managed. “We will do our best this time to ensure that whatever is donated to Quadri is properly utilized and not misappropriated,” he concluded.
The appeal has already begun to draw attention on social media, as concerned citizens and human rights groups rally in support of Quadri, whose case has sparked public sympathy and outrage.
Meanwhile, in an updated post on his X account, Effiong noted that within two hours a total of N2 million has been raised.
Breakingng.com had earlier reported that the 17-year-old boy who captured national attention during the 2023 presidential election when he bravely stood before Labour Party (LP) candidate Peter Obi’s convoy, was released after spending months at the Kirikiri Medium Security Custodial Centre in Lagos.
Details revealed that the police on January 26, 2025, presented Quadri before a Magistrate in Apapa and secured an order remanding him on a fabricated charge of armed robbery. The teenager was paraded with four unknown adult men by the police, who falsely claimed they were his accomplices.
