CDCFIB closes portal after 1.9M apply for 30,000 paramilitary jobs

Date:

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has officially closed its recruitment portal after attracting a staggering 1,911,692 applications for just 30,000 available positions across its four paramilitary agencies.

The portal, which went live on Monday, July 14, stopped accepting entries on Sunday, August 10, 2025.

“The official recruitment portal for the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board is now closed. We thank all applicants for their interest and commitment to serving with honour, integrity and national pride,” the Board stated in a Monday announcement.

The recruitment drive, earlier announced by the federal government, was aimed at filling roles in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Correctional Service, Federal Fire Service, and Nigeria Immigration Service.

A review of the submissions shows that with only 30,000 openings, a mere 1.57 percent of applicants stand a chance of being selected — a figure that starkly reflects the country’s deep unemployment challenges.

According to data from the portal, Kogi State led the applicant count with 116,124 entries, followed closely by Kaduna with 114,500, Benue with 110,525, Kano with 89,355, and Niger with 79,504.

States with the least submissions included Bayelsa (11,669), Lagos (14,215), Rivers (22,207), Ebonyi (23,601), and Delta (27,956).

Outlining the next steps, the CDCFIB said: “Shortlisted candidates will be contacted shortly with further instructions. Please monitor your email and text messages over the coming weeks for notifications. We also encourage you to regularly check the portal and social media handles for important updates.”
