Davido’s “from umbrella to broom” fuels Adeleke defection rumours

Date:

Popular Nigerian musician Davido appears to have hinted at his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke’s, rumored defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speculation has been swirling for the past month that Governor Adeleke is planning to switch from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election in the state.

These rumors gained traction after Davido and Governor Adeleke were seen visiting President Bola Tinubu for a private meeting at his Lagos residence last month.

The singer seemingly confirmed the impending political move in his recently released single, “From Umbrella To Broom,” a title widely interpreted as a metaphor for a shift from the PDP (whose symbol is an umbrella) to the APC (whose symbol is a broom).

Davido suggested that this significant political realignment would ultimately benefit the state, asserting that joining the APC would “move the state forward.”

Davido in the song said, “New broom go sweep better. Ẹtan abẹla si ìjọba wa. From umbrella to the broom. Adegbe adafa, alagbada alefa.

“Eyan marun, mefa, kilode ta n suffer. New broom go sweep better. Them tori us propaganda from January to December we no gbadun NEPA. So all of our youths wan go America,” meaning (why are we suffering when the new broom can sweep better).
