Emergency Rule: Military deploys armored vehicles, troops seize control of Rivers Gov’t house

Date:

Following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State last night, the Nigerian military quickly responded, deploying armored vehicles to take control of the State’s Government House.

At the time of this report, the location of Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains unclear.

The situation escalated quickly, with military convoys and heavy trucks entering the Government House area as residents scrambled to find safety, fearing potential unrest.

Eyewitnesses indicated that around 10 military trucks, including armored vehicles, were strategically positioned at key intersections near the Government House.

The normally bustling streets of the area quickly emptied as residents fled, trying to avoid any potential clashes.

A source within the Government House, speaking on condition of anonymity to Nigerian Tribune, revealed that Governor Fubara was last seen around 5:00 p.m. yesterday, following an emergency State Executive Council meeting.

However, military presence increased shortly afterward, with vehicles patrolling the area, adding to the confusion about the governor’s current status.

Uncertainty looms over whether Governor Fubara has vacated the premises or if Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Anas, the Sole Administrator, has taken control in the wake of the emergency.
