Nearly three years after the deadly attack on Saint Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State, the Federal Government is set to prosecute five suspects linked to the tragedy.

Those scheduled to be arraigned are Idris Omeiza, Al-Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, Abdulhaleem Idris, and Momoh Abubakar.

They are accused of orchestrating the June 5, 2022 bombing that left over 40 worshippers dead and many others injured.

The defendants will appear before Justice Obiorah Egwatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, where they face nine terrorism-related charges filed by the government.

The planned arraignment follows the 2022 announcement by the then Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, that the perpetrators had been apprehended.

The National Security Council had attributed the attack to the extremist group, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

According to reports at the time, gunmen stormed the church during Sunday mass, detonating explosives and opening fire on the congregation, leaving a trail of destruction and grief.
