Fubara blocked from entering Rivers Assembly complex

Date:

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, was on Wednesday barred from entering the state House of Assembly quarters located along Aba Road in Port Harcourt, where lawmakers loyal to his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, have been holding sessions.

Accompanied by top government officials, including Secretary to the State Government Dr. Tammy Danagogo and Chief of Staff Edison Ehie, Fubara arrived at the complex only to find the gates locked, preventing his entry.

Speaking to the media outside the complex, the governor accused Speaker Martins Amaewhule of deliberately avoiding him. He revealed that despite several attempts to reach Amaewhule, including phone calls and a formal letter, his efforts were met with silence.

“Before I got here, I tried multiple times to contact the Speaker, and I also sent a letter for this invitation. Unfortunately, the place is completely sealed, and there is no indication that anything is going to happen today,” Fubara explained.

The governor emphasized that his actions were motivated by his duty to the people of Rivers State and reiterated his commitment to fulfilling his constitutional responsibilities. “What we are doing today is for the benefit of our people. I believe there is no cause for concern, and I expect to hear from them after today,” he added.

After addressing journalists, Fubara and his entourage left the premises, marking another chapter in the ongoing political tension between the governor and members of the state assembly.
