Fubara still my political son – Wike

Date:

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that the embattled Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, remains his political protégé despite their ongoing political rift.

Wike made the statement in an interview with BBC Pidgin published on Saturday, where he addressed the deepening crisis in Rivers State.

The former governor of the state clarified that his issue was not with Fubara personally but with individuals he believes are manipulating the governor and turning him against his political mentors.

According to Wike, he’s not fighting Fubara but people who are instigating him, adding that he still regards Fubara as someone he brought into politics and supported into office.

He said, “That one is not a battle. He (Fubara) is my boy, he is my son, why will I fight with him?

“I’m only fighting against people who want to steal what they did not work for.

“When you don’t defeat them, they will think you….. Defeat them to the final stage.

“Now, they are ashamed because they are being defeated. They are the ones pushing Fubara.”

Wike and Fubara have been locked in a political standoff since 2023, a feud that has continued to deepen the crisis in Rivers State.

Amid escalating tensions, reports emerged that Governor Siminalayi Fubara who was suspended by President Bola Tinubu following the declaration of a state of emergency in the state had offered an apology to his former ally and political mentor, Nyesom Wike.
