Oluwatimileyin Ajayi, a gospel musician and fitness enthusiast, was arrested after being found with his girlfriend’s severed head in a town straddling Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Ajayi, well known for his religious music, was arrested on Sunday, January 12, near a church in Orozo, which borders Nasarawa and Abuja.
According to Punch, Caleb Umaru, the church’s Bible Study Teacher and General Secretary, said the incident occurred near the close of the session, about 11 a.m., during the last pledge and prayers.
He said, “It was almost the end of service around 11 am during the final pledge and prayers.
“A church member, Bro Victor, opened his eyes during prayers and saw someone passing by the river close to the church, carrying a bag and his movement was suspicious. That drew his attention. He called the attention of another brother, Brother Amos.
“When he saw them, he threw a black nylon bag into the river,”
“They inquired from him what he threw into the river and he said nothing. After many questions that he didn’t answer, they left him and went back but didn’t go into the church,” Umaru stated.
He continued, “While they were discussing outside, two bikemen came and asked the brothers if they had seen anyone pass through and they asked the bikemen to describe the person they were looking for.
“When the description matched, they told the bikemen that the person was at the back of their church. And the guy was still sitting there which I consider a miraculous intervention,” Umaru said.
Ajayi, understanding he was caught, abruptly ran, but the group ran after him and managed to catch him after a struggle in a neighboring farm.
Umaru noted, “It took the grace of God for the four of them to be able to catch him.”
When a police officer finally arrived, Ajayi was questioned and stated that he had been dating the victim for about a year.
He explained that an argument had ensued when he discovered his girlfriend was chatting with another man.
During the altercation, she cut his hand with a knife, and in the heat of the moment, he grabbed the knife and fatally stabbed her in the neck.
Later, a nylon bag was opened, revealing the human head, which was confirmed to be that of his girlfriend. Ajayi claimed he was taking the head to a woman who had instructed him to bring it to her.
As the police arrived, they brought Ajayi into custody, along with the severed head.
Umaru confirmed Ajayi’s status as a gospel singer, citing a friend from Lagos.
Ajayi, who is from Kabba in Kogi State, was seen carrying a fresh human head, which he allegedly said was the result of a violent altercation. When contacted, the FCT Police Command’s DSP Josephine Adeh confirmed the report but clarified that the incident occurred in Nasarawa, not the FCT.
To clarify, the incident above did not occur in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) but in Nasarawa State. We kindly urge everyone to ensure accuracy in such reports for better public understanding,” FCT Police spokesperson said.
