Groom poisoned by 14-year-old bride in Jigawa breaks silence, reflects on two-year relationship

Date:

Khamis Haruna, a 29-year-old groom who was hospitalized after swallowing poisoned food reportedly made by his 14-year-old wife, has revealed that they had been dating for two years before marrying.

Speaking to reporters, Haruna expressed astonishment and surprise at the occurrence, saying he felt their love was real.

It should be recalled that the food poisoning occurred on Sunday, December 22, 2024, two days after their wedding in Jigawa State.

Recounting the events of the fateful evening, he said the bride’s friends brought a meal of jollof spaghetti to him and his two friends while they were at his tailoring shop.

“We had taken a few spoons when we noticed a harmful substance in the meal’.

“A few minutes later, my friend Alfah began complaining of stomach pains. By the time we got to a friend’s house for help, all of us were feeling unwell.”

He stated that the three of them were rushed to Jahun Hospital, where one of his friends, Muhammad Alfah, tragically died, while himself and the other friend, Isyaku Adamu, survived.

Haruna alleged that his young bride was influenced by an ex-lover who provided her with the poison, instructing her to add it to the food.

“We were married for love,” Haruna said. “She never showed any signs of resentment or worry. I’m really surprised she carried out such an evil act.”
