A group of professionals and activists gathered at the United States Embassy in Abuja on Friday, demanding a visa ban on Mele Kyari, the immediate Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL).
The demonstrators called for the ban due to allegations of financial misconduct attributed to Kyari during his tenure as GCEO.

Representing the Young Professionals Forum of Nigeria, the protesters accused Kyari of misappropriating funds intended for refinery repairs.
In a petition delivered to the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard M. Mills Jr., the group urged that Kyari be prevented from entering the US while investigations are ongoing.
The group’s leader, Sambari Benjamin, stated, “Mr. Mele Kolo Kyari is central to ongoing investigations into grand corruption and abuse of office, misappropriation of funds.”
