In a move aimed at bolstering security across the nation, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate posting of 38 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to various state commands and police formations.
This reshuffle, announced on Friday, is part of a strategic effort to enhance law enforcement capabilities and ensure a more effective response to the growing security concerns in the country.
The announcement was made public in a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the changes. According to the release, several states are set to receive new leadership at the helm of their respective police commands.
Notable among the postings are CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, who has been assigned to Zamfara State; CP Bretet Emmanuel Simon, now leading the charge in Taraba; and CP Christopher Ado Emmanuel, who will oversee policing efforts in Yobe State.
Other key appointments include CP Olusegun Eyitayo Omosayin in Cross-River State, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman in Niger State, CP Sani Omolori Aliyu in Bauchi State, and CP Bello Shehu in Katsina State.
Additionally, CP Saka Adewale Ajao has been posted as the Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), while CP Ojo Adekimi will take charge in Kwara State.
Beyond these state postings, the deployment also includes 29 Commissioners of Police assigned to various other police formations across the country, marking a comprehensive effort to address the country’s evolving security challenges.
The new commissioners have been tasked with implementing localized strategies tailored to the unique needs of their respective jurisdictions.
The IGP emphasized that the focus would be on proactive and intelligence-led policing, ensuring the safety and security of Nigerian citizens.
In his remarks, IGP Egbetokun urged the newly appointed CPs to tackle rising insecurity and police misconduct with urgency and commitment.
He reiterated that this restructuring underscores the new leadership’s determination to maintain law and order while building a more responsive and robust police force.
