IGP orders urgent action to rescue Afenifere youth leader

Date:

In a swift response to the kidnapping of Prince Eniola Ojajuni, the Afenifere Youth Leader, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the immediate mobilisation of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT).

This team has been tasked with ensuring the safe rescue of Ojajuni, who was abducted on February 17, 2025, while en route to Abuja.

The IG emphasised the need for the team to prioritize Ojajuni’s safe return and deploy all necessary resources to bring the ordeal to a swift conclusion.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, reassured the public of the police’s unwavering commitment to Ojajuni’s safe release, highlighting that all available expertise and resources are being utilized in the ongoing operation.

He said, “The IGP commends the bravery and swift action of these gallant officers who have demonstrated their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens. In the same vein, the IGP has ordered the immediate deployment of the FID Intelligence Response Team to prioritise the safe rescue of Prince Eniola Ojajuni, the Afenifere Youth Leader, who was kidnapped on 17 February 2025 while en route to Abuja.

“The NPF is fully committed to the safe return of Prince Ojajuni and is deploying all necessary resources and expertise to achieve this objective.

“However, the police urge members of the public to exercise caution and refrain from engaging in social media speculation or sharing unverified information regarding the ongoing rescue efforts. Such activities can inadvertently jeopardise the operation and potentially endanger the victim’s safety.

“The Nigeria Police Force will continue to actively pursue and dismantle all criminal elements operating within our communities, with the ultimate goal of establishing peace and safety.”

The Nigerian Police Force has marked significant achievements in February, with successful operations across various states. On February 26, 2025, operatives in Taraba State conducted a raid on a suspected criminal hideout at the Wamunchi dry-season rice farms.

The operation resulted in the arrest of 20 individuals, the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, seven rounds of live ammunition, a motorcycle, three Dane guns, and a bow and arrow.

Meanwhile, in Oyo State, a coordinated response from tactical teams and local security outfits led to the rescue of three kidnap victims, who had been abducted from the palace of Baale Tajudeen Inaolaji on February 24, 2025.

The operation also saw the capture of one of the kidnappers involved in the crime.
