The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a stern warning to the Igbo community in Northern Nigeria, urging them to stay vigilant and prepared for self-defense amid rising ethnic tensions.
This warning follows the reported killing of Hausa hunters in Edo State, an incident IPOB believes has led to heightened hostility towards the Igbo population.
In a statement released by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group condemned any calls for retaliation against the Igbo in the North.
IPOB pointed out that the recent threats and actions targeting the Igbo community are part of a broader, long-standing pattern of ethnic conflict that has persisted in Nigeria for years.
The group emphasized the importance of remaining calm and resolute, while asserting that these issues are fueled by deeper historical divisions.
The group further urged indigenous Northern communities, particularly the Hausa people, to exercise caution and avoid being dragged into violence that could destabilize the region.

IPOB emphasized that ethnic violence serves no one’s interests and called on Nigerians to resist being manipulated into conflicts that could harm their own communities.
In addition to these warnings, IPOB reinforced its appeal for heightened security awareness among the Igbo in both Northern Nigeria and the South-East.
The group reiterated its commitment to safeguarding Igbo lives and properties while continuing to advocate for the peaceful dissolution of Nigeria’s colonial-era structure.
Concluding the statement, IPOB called for unity among Nigeria’s indigenous ethnic groups, stressing that a collective effort is essential to securing lasting peace and stability for all.
