JAMB cracks down on night-time candidate registration for 2025 UTME

Date:

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a stern warning to examination centres engaging in the registration of candidates for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) during the night.

JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, expressed concerns over the practice, emphasizing that the safety of candidates must never be compromised in the rush to accommodate as many as possible.

In a public statement, JAMB highlighted the importance of prioritizing security above all else.

“While we appreciate the eagerness of these centres to register as many candidates as possible, the safety and security of those candidates cannot be sacrificed,” Benjamin said.

The board has named 10 centres that have been flagged for conducting night-time registrations, including institutions across several states such as Thomas Adewumi University in Kwara, CBT Centre Otukpo in Benue, and Ebenezer International School in Rivers.

Other centres listed are Jigawa State College of Education, Lafiagi Emirate IT Hub, Zulqud Consult Ltd, Klinnicapps Academy, Sani Mikaila Comprehensive College, Beeps Technology Ltd, and FZX Media Consulting Ltd.

JAMB assured the public that it would continue to take firm action against any centre involved in such practices to maintain the integrity of the UTME.

“We will not tolerate any breaches of the registration rules and will deal decisively with any centre caught in exploitative or questionable activities,” Benjamin added.

Furthermore, JAMB reminded both candidates and parents to refrain from publicly confronting university officials over admission matters.

The board has received complaints from parents accusing universities of denying their children admission despite strong UTME scores, though JAMB urges a more private and formal resolution of such grievances.

The statement reads: “One of the most recent cases was that of Mr. Godwin Nsan, who publicly accused the University of Calabar of unjust handling of his son’s admission.

“He had protested in writing to JAMB but was unwilling to provide requested details to establish his case despite pleas from the board.

“When he eventually provided the details after he had unduly castigated the University in the media, it was discovered that the score (ranking) of the child who scored 201 in the UTME and whose aggregate score was 34%  fell below the 55%; 35% and 35  which were for Merit; Catchment and ELDS respectively whereas he had unduly castigated the university.”

JAMB said it has implemented a robust “Ticketing Platform” where candidates and their guardians can seek clarification.
