John Mahama sworn in as 13th president of Ghana

John Dramani Mahama has officially taken oath of office as Ghana’s president during a spectacular inauguration ceremony at the Black Star Square in Accra.

The event saw a large crowd of Ghanaians, along with prominent dignitaries and international figures, come together to celebrate this significant milestone in the nation’s democratic progress.

Mahama who previously served as Ghana’s 12th President from 2011 to 2017, returned to office in an election in December 2024.

Sixty-Five year old President Mahama succeeds Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, following a decisive win in last year’s presidential election, where he secured 56.6% of the vote, defeating the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, then Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who received 41.6%.
