Jonathan’s ex-ADC, Moses Jitoboh has passed away

Date:

Moses Jitoboh, the former deputy inspector general (DIG) of police and aide-de-camp (ADC) to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has passed away at the age of 54. Reports indicate that Jitoboh succumbed to a short illness on Friday.

The news of his death was confirmed by Adebola Hamzat, the assistant inspector general of police overseeing Zone 16 in Bayelsa State, who issued a statement on Saturday.

Hamzat paid tribute to Jitoboh, acknowledging his unwavering commitment and lasting impact on the police force, noting that his legacy would not be forgotten.

“The passing of the DIG (Jitoboh) is a great loss, not only to the immediate family but to the entire Bayelsa State, Nigeria Police Force and the Nation at large,” the statement reads.

“His contributions to the Nigeria Police Force, dedication to service and integrity can never be forgotten, and before his retirement in 2023.

“It is our prayer that God will give the immediate family the strength to bear the irreplaceable loss of your beloved Son.”

Jitoboh served as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in charge of research and planning, as well as information and communications technology (ICT) at the Force Headquarters.

He was also the Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to Goodluck Jonathan during his time as Governor of Bayelsa State and Vice President, continuing his role in Jonathan’s security team when he became President.

After the former president lost the 2015 election, Jitoboh returned to regular police duty. In 2021, he was reportedly overlooked when former President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Usman Baba as Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Following the retirement of IGP Alkali in 2023, President Bola Tinubu appointed Kayode Egbetokun as the new IGP. This development resulted in Jitoboh’s compulsory retirement, as he was Egbetokun’s superior.

Last year, Jitoboh filed a lawsuit against the Police Service Commission (PSC) over his retirement, claiming the decision violated Rule 020810 of the Public Service Rules and Section 18(8) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020.
