Kano police apprehends 17 over planned protest at Ado Bayero’s residence

Date:

The Kano State Police have apprehended 17 individuals suspected of attempting to orchestrate a violent demonstration at Nassarawa Palace, the residence of Aminu Ado Bayero, the former Emir of Kano.

This arrest occurs amidst the ongoing dispute over the Kano Emirate, a conflict that has been escalating for months. In May 2024, a Kano High Court ruled that Bayero could no longer present himself as the Emir, following the restoration of Muhammad Sanusi II to the throne.

Haruna Kiyawa, the spokesperson for the Kano Police, issued a firm warning to the public on Wednesday, urging them to cancel their planned protest.

Kiyawa stressed that robust security measures had been deployed to maintain order and prevent any disturbances.

“The police command strongly warns all individuals and groups against engaging in any unlawful assemblies, processions, or violent acts. Any attempts to do so will be met with a swift and decisive response,” Kiyawa stated.

The police spokesperson revealed that, based on credible intelligence, security forces had been mobilized in collaboration with other agencies to key locations across Kano Metropolis to thwart the planned protest and ensure public safety.

Authorities are determined to prevent any breach of the peace in the state, maintaining a firm stance against any illegal actions.
