The Lagos State Police Command has refuted speculations surrounding a viral video circulating on social media which shows a large group of young men gathered near the Dano Company premises in the Ibeju-Lekki area, amid online claims that the individuals posed a security threat.
In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, authorities confirmed that the men, 89 in total, had arrived in Lagos from Katsina State for legitimate employment as labourers at the Dangote Refinery.

“The attention of the Lagos State Police Command has been drawn to a video circulating on social media showing a large number of young men who had reportedly just arrived in Lagos, seen gathered in front of the Dano Company premises in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State,” CSP Hundeyin said.
According to Hundeyin, the police swiftly responded to the report on May 14, 2025, by deploying officers to the location to investigate the situation and ensure public safety.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the young men in question, eighty-nine (89) in number, had arrived from Katsina State and were recruited to work as labourers at the Dangote Refinery in Lekki,” he explained.
He further noted that a contractor affiliated with the refinery presented himself to the police and confirmed that he had personally sourced and brought the labourers for legitimate work. The contractor’s account was supported by the refinery’s Chief Security Officer, who verified the identities and employment status of the individuals.
“The individuals were thoroughly searched, and no incriminating items were found in their possession,” Hundeyin said.
“Furthermore, each person properly identified themselves and presented their National Identification Numbers (NINs), which were duly verified.
“To reassure the public, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, appealed for calm and cautioned against the spread of unverified information that could cause undue panic.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, urges members of the public to remain calm and desist from spreading unverified or alarmist content that could create unnecessary tension or panic,” Hundeyin added.
He stressed the Command’s ongoing commitment to public safety, emphasizing that police operations remain swift and thorough in addressing issues that arise.
This clarification comes amid growing concerns over security in Lagos, especially in light of misinformation often circulated through social media.
Authorities have reiterated their dedication to transparency and quick action to maintain peace and order throughout the state.
