Residents and businesses in Lagos may experience intermittent electricity outages as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) prepares to carry out scheduled maintenance on key infrastructure, the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has said.
In a statement released on Friday, EKEDC informed customers that the planned outage will run from Monday, July 28 to Thursday, August 21, 2025.

Daily disruptions are expected between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. throughout this period.
According to the utility company, the power cuts are necessary to facilitate critical repairs on the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV transmission line, a vital part of the national grid that supplies power to major parts of Lagos under EKEDC’s coverage area.
“Kindly be informed that there will be a planned outage by our partner, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN)… to enable works to be safely carried out,” the notice from EKEDC read.
The company further advised customers to take precautions and prepare for possible disruptions during the maintenance window.
Although the repairs are crucial for the long-term performance of the power supply network, the impact may be temporarily inconvenient for users.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this may cause. Do kindly bear with us,” EKEDC added.
The development highlights continuing challenges in ensuring consistent power delivery in Nigeria’s economic hub, where frequent blackouts have made alternative energy sources a necessity for many.
