Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to make a concerted push to bring back former President Goodluck Jonathan, describing him as the party’s strongest contender for the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, on Friday, Lamido said Jonathan’s leadership experience and collaborative style make him the most qualified option from the South within the PDP.
“I think for the PDP now, they should try to woo him; he is their best bet. Anybody put forth by the PDP, Nigerians will support him,” Lamido stated.
He praised Jonathan’s track record, noting that he had already led the nation, understood governance, and valued partnership in leadership.

“With all respect to all members, I don’t see a better alternative than Jonathan if he comes to the PDP. If we are zoning the presidency to the South, who in the PDP can match his experience, willingness to listen, and ability to work with others?” Lamido asked.
His remarks come amid mounting speculation over Jonathan’s possible return to the PDP to contest in 2027. The former president, who has largely kept a low political profile since losing the 2015 election, has not declared his intentions.
However, reports of behind-the-scenes lobbying and negotiations within PDP ranks have continued to fuel talk of a potential comeback, making Jonathan one of the most closely watched political figures ahead of the next presidential race.
