The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Friday morning officially released the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), triggering a wave of mixed reactions among candidates nationwide.
While some candidates quietly checked their results through the JAMB portal and SMS code, others took to social media platform X to express their frustrations, shock, and in some cases, humor over what they described as “unbelievable scores” that did not reflect their efforts during the months of preparation.

A cross-section of candidates posted screenshots of their UTME scores, with many lamenting unexpectedly low results.

BreakingNG.com discovered that while a few candidates celebrated passable or outstanding scores, a significant number expressed anger, confusion, and disappointment.
One of the candidates, @Franklin_Ofulele who shared his score on X said: “@JAMBHQWhat went wrongAfter four months of consistent studies, I am seeing 151 as how, this is not a matter of confidence I knew what i wrote, please our future is at stake. Earlier this week, JAMB made public the statistical breakdown of candidates’ performance in the 2025 UTME.

According to the data, over 1.5 million of the 1,955,069 candidates who took part in the examination scored below the 200-point mark.
Further details revealed that 420,415 candidates attained scores above 200, while only 756 surpassed the 320-point threshold.Additionally, 7,658 candidates scored between 300 and 319 points.

According to JAMB, “As part of the results, 40,247 underage candidates were permitted to demonstrate their exceptional abilities.
“However, only 467 of these candidates (1.16 per cent) achieved scores that meet the threshold for exceptional ability as defined for the UTME, with their performance in the subsequent three stages still pending.

“Of the total number registered, 97 candidates were involved in examination infractions, while 2,157 others are currently undergoing investigation for suspected malpractices.”
Responding to the mass failure, JAMB stated that the reason for the high number of candidates who scored below 200 was due to the anti malpractice measures put in place.
