Monguno calls for emergency security summit after deadly attack on soldiers in Borno

Date:

Following the brutal killing of several frontline soldiers in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Chief Whip of the Senate (APC, Borno North), has called for an urgent national security summit to address the resurgence of Boko Haram and ISWAP attacks.

Senator Monguno described the recent wave of unchallenged attacks across Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, and other parts of the Northeast as a serious threat to national security.

He said the assaults undermine the efforts of the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, security agencies, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, local vigilantes, and hunters who continue to risk their lives defending their communities.

The senator, whose constituency includes Marte, condemned the early Monday morning assault on a military base in the area, which reportedly claimed the lives of several soldiers and resulted in the looting of weapons.

He described the incident as a major setback in the ongoing fight against terrorism.

Monguno extended his condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, prayed for the repose of their souls in Aljanatul Firdaus, and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the attack.

“It is very worrisome and shocking that the renewed attacks in Borno and other places has taken a different dimension without confrontation. Just today (Monday) one of my local government area which is Marte came under a deadly Boko Haram Invasion on military formation.

“Many Soldiers were killed with looting of arms and ammunition without confrontation. Let me use this opportunity to call on all and sundry to support convention of National Security Summit (NSS), considering the fact that the renewed attacks seem to be going out of hand”. Monguno stressed.
