President Bola Tinubu is expected to arrive in Lagos State today, and, as is typical with such visits, significant traffic disruptions are anticipated due to road closures and heightened security measures enforced by his protocol teams along certain routes.
Whenever the president visits Lagos, residents and commuters can expect major delays, particularly on roads that his convoy will travel, including the popular routes leading to and from the airport.
The most affected areas are typically along the Airport Road, through Oshodi, and the Third Mainland Bridge, which leads to Tinubu’s Ikoyi residence. Traffic patterns may also shift depending on whether the president makes any additional stops, similar to his recent visit to the Oba of Lagos.
In many cases, roads surrounding the president’s route are closed hours before his arrival, leaving many motorists stranded until the convoy passes.
Once the convoy has gone through, the roads are reopened, but not before a chaotic surge of traffic as frustrated drivers, many of whom have already lost valuable time, rush to get to their destinations, often driving with impatience and heightened aggression.

In addition to the traffic snarls, the president’s routes are heavily secured, with a large presence of security personnel from various agencies, including the army, police, navy, and civil defense.
These officers are stationed along the roads, conducting security checks and, at times, causing further delays as they monitor vehicles and pedestrians.
Since his inauguration in May 2023, President Tinubu has made several official visits to Lagos, including on June 27, 2023, after returning from a seven-day trip abroad, and again on February 29, 2024, for the unveiling of the Red Rail Line. He also visited Lagos in December 2024 after presenting the 2025 budget to the National Assembly in Abuja.
His most recent visit was in January 2025, when he paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, at the Iga Idunganran palace on Lagos Island.
