The national electricity grid experienced another collapse early Saturday morning, marking the third such incident in just one week.

Reports indicate widespread blackouts across many states, compounding the challenges faced by Nigeria’s already fragile power system.

Data from the Nigerian System Operator (niggrid.org) showed that the grid registered an unprecedented zero megawatts (MW) at 8:16 AM today. All 22 generation companies (GenCos) were offline at the time of reporting.

This incident represents the eighth grid disturbance in 2024, highlighting ongoing issues in Nigeria’s power sector.

Despite the significant impact of the blackout, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had not confirmed the collapse or provided information regarding its cause or resolution by the time of this report.

On October 14, the national grid collapsed around 6:48 PM, resulting in widespread outages.

Although some areas, like Abuja, experienced partial restoration, many regions remain without power as of October 19, following the latest collapse shortly after initial recovery efforts.

The persistent grid failures have sparked serious concerns about the stability of Nigeria’s electricity supply system.
