While inspecting the vehicle, a man suspected to be a phone thief allegedly confronted the officer and demanded his mobile phones. Buba reportedly refused to surrender them, prompting the assailant to stab him in the chest with a knife.
Kaduna State Police spokesperson, Mansir Hassan, confirmed the incident and stated that the officer was rushed to Manaal Hospital but was later confirmed dead by a medical practitioner.
“The body of late Buba has been deposited at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital mortuary. The deceased was in his black Toyota vehicle with registration number APP-745HT, when the incident happened,” Hassan said.
Hassan also revealed that Suleiman Dahiru, a civilian who attempted to intervene during the attack, sustained a stab wound to the hand. He is currently undergoing treatment.
The suspect tried to escape the scene but was apprehended by an irate crowd, who beat him to death before authorities could intervene.
