The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has sanctioned two flight crew members from ValueJet following a significant violation of aviation safety procedures at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
In an official statement released by Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, the agency acknowledged receipt of a report detailing the incident, which happened on Tuesday, at the domestic wing of the airport.

“Preliminary information indicates that the pilot in question commenced departure procedures from the designated bay without adhering to the mandatory pre-departure clearance protocols,” the statement said.
The authority condemned the pilot’s conduct, labelling it “reckless” and stating that the move placed airport ground staff and other users at serious risk. The action reportedly contravened both national aviation laws and global safety regulations.
As a swift corrective measure, the NCAA immediately suspended the licenses of both the captain, identified as Captain Oluranti Ogoyi, and the co-pilot, First Officer Ivan Oloba.
“This suspension will remain in place pending the conclusion of a full investigation into the incident,” the NCAA added.
Reiterating its commitment to prioritizing public safety and regulatory compliance, the NCAA gave an assurance to all stakeholders.
“The Authority hereby reaffirms all stakeholders of its commitment to safety,” the statement concluded.
