No government can solve every problem — Wike

Date:

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has emphasized that it is unrealistic to expect any government to address all of a country’s challenges.

However, he asserted that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is making consistent efforts to enhance the wellbeing of Nigerians.

During a media interaction held in Abuja on Monday, Wike, the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, addressed concerns about the pace and transparency of development activities in the FCT, especially in relation to the commissioning of completed projects.

“I will not say here that every problem has been solved. All problems cannot be solved, even if this government stays for 20 years; no government can solve all problems. But government is solving problems that will at least help to improve the lives of people,” he said.

Wike clarified that not every project is officially flagged off or inaugurated, explaining that the administration focuses on visibility and strategic importance when determining which projects to highlight.

He said, “It is not possible to commission every project. We take what we think are major, capital-intensive projects, ones where billions of naira have been spent, and showcase those. But when you’re talking about smaller projects, must we commission everything?”

The minister called on the media to collaborate with the administration by engaging directly with Mandate Secretaries and conducting on-site visits to evaluate ongoing initiatives in sectors such as education and social welfare.

“We’re not saying we’ve done everything. But we are doing what will at least make a difference in the lives of the people, and that’s the whole point of governance.“You must appreciate when a government has done well. You don’t need to like the person in charge,” he stated.
