No life lost as fire guts hotel accommodating 480 Nigerian pilgrims in Mecca

Date:

A fire incident has occurred at the Imaratus Sanan Hotel accommodating more than 480 Nigerian pilgrims participating in the 2025 Hajj.

The hotel is located in the Sharamansur district of Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

According to reports, the 480 Nigerians were said to be under private tour arrangements.

The blaze, which erupted on Saturday, severely affected parts of the hotel structure.

However, there were no casualties, as the pilgrims were in Mina at the time, engaged in the symbolic stoning of the devil—a key component of the Hajj rituals.

Fatima Usara, spokesperson for the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), confirmed the incident in an official statement.

She acknowledged the swift intervention of Saudi Arabia’s emergency services and hotel personnel, whose prompt action helped to contain the fire and prevent loss of life.

NAHCON Chairman, Abdullahi Usman, promptly visited the scene to evaluate the damage and extend moral support to those impacted by the incident.

Visibly affected by the extent of destruction, Usman reassured the pilgrims and expressed appreciation for the efficient response by Saudi authorities.

“Our priority is the safety and comfort of our pilgrims,” he said.

“We have arranged immediate relocation to alternative accommodations and will provide every support within our capacity to minimise their distress.”

He also commended the Saudi fire brigade and hotel staff for their rapid and effective response to the emergency.
