Ooni’s former wife hospitalised as IGP takes over probe of Ibadan tragedy

Date:

Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, former wife of the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has been hospitalised after collapsing on Friday.

Silekunola has been in the news after 35 children died during a stampede at a funfair organised by her foundation on Wednesday in Ibadan.

The event was said to have been initially planned for 5,000 children, but over 7,500 children showed up, worsening the tense situation.

A popular broadcast journalist in Ibadan, Seun Aribikola, revealed in a Facebook post that Silekunola had been hospitalised.

According to him, she was taken to the Police Hospital at Eleyele for medical treatment.

The broadcast journalist said the ex-queen was taken to the hospital alongside the Chairman of Agidigbo FM, Oriyomi Hamzat, whose platform was the media partner for the event.

PUCNH quoted a top police source on Friday as saying the case had been taken over by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.

The source said, “The IG is now in charge of the case.”
