Former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, declared on Thursday his support for a Southern president in the 2027 general election.
Ortom believes the Southern region should be allowed to complete an eight-year term in office before power shifts back to the North.
Speaking to the press in Makurdi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart also clarified his position on the emerging opposition coalition, stating he is not aligned with it.
This declaration comes amidst speculation that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar might be the presidential candidate for an opposition coalition, possibly under the banner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

These rumors have been fueled by Abubakar’s recent statements hinting at another presidential bid.
However, Ortom said: “Till today, I, Ortom, believe in southern presidency, even if my party, PDP is producing a candidate for presidency in 2027, the candidate must be from the South. South should be allowed to complete eight years.
“So, for me, I am not supporting a northern candidate.
“I remain a member and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party; I am even a board member of my party and I don’t believe in coalition but where there’s need for strategic partnership, you will see me there.”
