The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a strong start to the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), with over 69,000 Nigerians pre-registering online within the first seven hours of the exercise.
INEC revealed in a statement that the registration portal, which went live at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 18, 2025, attracted massive traffic, with “as many as 69,376 Nigerians pre-registered online by 3:30 p.m.”

Breaking down the figures, the Commission said “33,803 (48.7%) are male while 35,573 (51.3%) are female. In terms of age, 48,033 (69.2%) are young persons aged 18-34.”

The online platform, available at cvr.inecnigeria.org, is open round the clock to eligible Nigerians.
Meanwhile, INEC disclosed that physical or in-person registration will begin next week.
“The Commission is set to commence the in-person registration option on Monday 25th August 2025 at our 811 State and Local Government offices nationwide from 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. during weekdays (Monday to Friday) only,” the statement read.
According to the Commission, the dual registration approach will run simultaneously throughout the CVR period, giving Nigerians the choice between completing the process online or visiting designated offices in person.
INEC further assured that Nigerians would be regularly updated on the progress of the exercise. “From next week, the Commission will be giving weekly updates on the CVR, including detailed breakdown by State, gender, age, occupation and disability.”
The Commission also reiterated eligibility guidelines, stressing that only Nigerian citizens aged 18 and above who have not registered before are allowed to participate.
“Double or multiple registration is a violation of the law. However, inter-State/FCT and intra-State/FCT transfer of voters as well as the replacement of lost or damaged voters cards are allowed during the CVR,” INEC cautioned.
With the impressive turnout on the first day, analysts say the surge in online pre-registrations reflects a growing enthusiasm among young Nigerians to participate in the democratic process ahead of future elections.
