PDP NWC backs Tony Aziegbemi-led caretaker committee in Edo

Date:

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its recognition of the Dr. Tony Aziegbemi-led Caretaker Committee as the authentic leadership of the party in Edo State, warning that any individuals claiming to be members of another executive are impostors.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the party expressed concern over reports of individuals parading themselves as the Edo State Executive of the PDP.

“The attention of the National Working Committee (NWC) of our great Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was at its meeting of Wednesday, 16th July, 2025 drawn to the activities of certain individuals posturing and seeking to parade themselves as the State Executive of our Party in Edo State,” Ologunagba said.

He stressed that the NWC had already constituted a Caretaker Committee on May 6, 2025, in line with its constitutional powers, to oversee the party’s affairs in the state for a period of 90 days beginning from the date of its establishment.

“For clarity, the NWC on 6th May, 2025, pursuant to its powers under the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017) constituted the Tony Aziegbemi-led Caretaker Committee to pilot the affairs of the Party in the State for a period of 90 days beginning from 6th May, 2025,” he stated.

The committee is composed of the following members:

1. Dr. Tony Aziegbemi – Chairman

2. Hon. Harrison Omagbon – Member

3. Hon. Fidel Igenegbale – Member

4. Hon. Chris Nehikhare – Member5. Tony Anenih Jnr. – Member

7. Hon. Segun Saiki – Member

8. Adezat Kuburat Ibrahim – Member

9. Augustine Edosomwan – Member

10. Hon. Henry Duke Tenebe – SecretaryThe party’s spokesperson emphasized that this is the only recognized leadership structure of the PDP in Edo State at this time.

“The NWC declares that any other individual or individuals posturing as members of the PDP Edo State Executive are impostors and should be regarded as such by Party members, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, the media and the general public,” Ologunagba asserted.

The NWC’s declaration aims to put an end to the growing confusion within the state chapter and sends a strong warning to those attempting to destabilize party operations ahead of the 2025 governorship election in the state.
