“I had the opportunity of meeting late Muhammadu Buhari while I was campaigning, and I remember his words till today, and he said to me, please care for the poor Nigerians, and that is all I always remember, and I believe he did his best within his capacity.”

Obi also used the moment to emphasize the importance of humility and public service, encouraging current and future leaders to remain mindful of their duties and mortality.

“We have to all learn how to serve our country, knowing that one day we will all be called back by our creator,” he said.

He described Buhari’s compassion for the downtrodden as a defining trait of his leadership style.

“Buhari’s sincere appeal for fighting and caring for the poor” is a perfect description of a man who lived a life of simplicity,” he added.

It will be recalled that President Bola Tinubu, along with several top government officials, received Buhari’s remains at the Katsina International Airport on Tuesday before they headed to Daura for burial rites.

The late former President died on Sunday in a London hospital following a brief illness. He was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic traditions at his residence in Daura, Katsina State, as thousands of mourners gathered to pay their final respects.
