Supporters of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have decided to postpone their planned rally in Bayelsa State.
The announcement was made by George Turnah, the lead convener of the pro-Wike group, NEW Associates, during a press briefing in Yenagoa.
The rally was initially organized to show solidarity and express gratitude toward President Bola Tinubu and Wike for their efforts in appointing prominent Bayelsa indigenes to key positions in government. However, the Bayelsa State government opposed the event, and a state high court issued a restraining order preventing the rally from taking place.
Adding to the tension, supporters of Douye Diri, the Governor of Bayelsa, had also planned a rally on the same date, at the same location, and at the same time.

To avoid potential conflicts, Turnah announced that the pro-Wike rally has now been rescheduled to April 26, 2025. He emphasized that the decision was made after consultations with Ijaw leaders and in the interest of maintaining peace and unity.
“As a peaceful organization, we are committed to promoting harmony, security, and the welfare of all Nigerians,” Turnah said. “Every life, whether Ijaw or from any other ethnic group, is valuable and significant to us.”
He acknowledged that several other groups supporting Governor Diri and others had planned similar events for the same time and venue.
In respect to their right to hold their rallies, Turnah stated, “We are happy to allow them the space to carry out their programs, creating an environment where the nation can witness their support among the Ijaw people.”
Turnah further clarified that the rally would now take place on Saturday, April 26, 2025, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, following appeals from respected Ijaw leaders.
He expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from stakeholders and urged members of NEW Associates to stay energized and mobilized for the new date.
