The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 4,741 serving police inspectors following a recently concluded nationwide board interview.
According to a statement by the Commission’s spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, on Wednesday, 4,708 officers were elevated to the rank of unconfirmed Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP), while 33 others were promoted to Senior Inspectors.
The Commission also approved the promotion of 38 Specialist Deputy Superintendents to the rank of Superintendents, and 29 Specialist Superintendents to Chief Superintendents.

These promotions were among the key decisions reached at the Commission’s Plenary Meeting, which concluded in Abuja on Monday, July 21, 2025.
Earlier, the Commission had also ratified the promotion of 12 Commissioners of Police to Assistant Inspectors General (AIG), 16 Deputy Commissioners to Commissioners, and 28 Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners.
Chairman of the Commission, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu, urged the newly promoted officers to remain committed to national service, demonstrate integrity, and maintain close, respectful relationships with the public.
Argungu assured officers that the Commission would continue to advocate for better welfare and improved service conditions for members of the Nigeria Police Force.
