The Police Service Commission (PSC) has engaged with representatives from all 36 states and the FCT to finalize plans for a more transparent and credible police recruitment process in 2025.
The move aims to curb corruption and ensure fairness in the upcoming exercise.
During a consultative meeting in Abuja themed “Collaborative approach for a transparent and equitable police recruitment process,” the PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu, stated that the commission would work directly with state governments.
He urged states to actively protect their recruitment quotas and prevent the exercise from being hijacked.
DIG Argungu emphasized the PSC’s commitment to eradicating corrupt practices and preventing the sale or purchase of recruitment slots.

“We want to stop corruption in the system and open up the exercise to promote healthy competition and equitable spread,” he said. He added that merit and equity would be prioritized over special considerations.
Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, a retired Supreme Court Justice and PSC Commissioner, stressed that the commission was established to ensure fairness in police recruitment and would not allow anyone to compromise the process.
“We will rely on you to confirm that those to be recruited are from your states,” he told the representatives.
DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), also a commissioner, noted that the new leadership is dedicated to recruiting the best of Nigeria’s youth to build the police force of the future.
He thanked the President for approving the recruitment of Cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) and Constables, adding that this opportunity would not be taken for granted.
