Vice President Kashim Shettima has mourned the passing of the Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, Muhammadu Sani Sami (Gomo II), describing him as an eminent military leader and royal father whose death is a monumental loss to Nigeria.
According to a statement by the Vice President’s Spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima noted that the late Emir, who died on Saturday night in a London hospital at the age of 81, embodied the rare combination of military discipline, traditional wisdom, and community service.
The statement reads in part: “Vice President Kashim Shettima has expressed profound grief over the passing of the Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami (Gomo II), describing his death as a monumental loss to Nigeria’s traditional institution and military heritage.

“He described the traditional ruler and retired military officer as a symbol of how diverse forms of leadership can unite to serve a common purpose, the betterment of people and nation.
“In a condolence message on Sunday, the Vice President said the late Emir’s commanding presence bridged two critical pillars of Nigeria’s leadership structure: the military and traditional institutions.
” ‘Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami was not just an Emir or a military officer; he was an eminent leader whose strategic thinking and disciplined approach to governance strengthened the Zuru Emirate and enriched our national leadership fabric’.”
