The Federal Government has confirmed ongoing efforts to extradite Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed Prime Minister of Biafra, from Finland to face charges in Nigeria.
Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, disclosed this on Thursday during a special event in Abuja.
He explained that Ekpa is currently under investigation by Finnish authorities for terrorism-related activities.
Only after the conclusion of that process will steps be taken to return him to Nigeria.

“Ekpa has committed offences against both Finland and Nigeria,” Fagbemi stated.
“His extradition will happen at the appropriate time. We are collaborating with the Finnish government to ensure he is brought back for trial.”
Ekpa has been widely linked to the violent actions of so-called “unknown gunmen” in Nigeria’s Southeast region.
Authorities allege that he has incited unrest and supported attacks under the guise of advocating for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
He was arrested in Finland in November 2024 alongside four others, though the co-arrestees were later released.
His case is now in the hands of Finland’s Deputy Prosecutor General, who will determine whether he faces charges in Finland before any extradition proceedings can begin.
