The Supreme Court has annulled the local government election held in Rivers State on October 5, 2024, ruling that it contravened Section 150 of the Electoral Act 2024.
In a unanimous decision, a five-member panel of the apex court concluded that the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) had failed to fulfill the necessary legal requirements prior to conducting the election.

Delivering the lead judgment, Justice Jamilu Tukur affirmed the appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC), highlighting the absence of evidence that voter registration was completed at least 90 days before the election or that the required notices had been properly issued.
