Those around Tinubu aren’t truthful about Nigeria’s true state – Adamu Garba

Date:

Adamu Garba, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has alleged that President Bola Tinubu is surrounded by sycophants who are misinforming him about the actual state of affairs in Nigeria and within the ruling party.

Speaking during an appearance on Politics Today, a political programme aired on Channels Television, Garba raised concerns about the leadership crisis within the APC following the resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje as national chairman.

He said the vacuum has opened the door for opposition forces, particularly a coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to capitalize on the party’s internal discord.

“They (ADC coalition) hope for our loss, and that is why we need to be serious,” the former senator said.

“That is the more reason why we need to be very sincere with ourselves and make sure that the leadership of the party is somebody that is truthful and capable of listening to criticisms and accepting the facts without any flattery, without any sycophancy, because I believe there are a lot of sycophants around the president; people are telling him that things are okay—things are not okay.”

Garba pointed out that the APC has lost much of the popularity it enjoyed in the North under Buhari’s administration, referencing a significant drop in voter numbers during the 2023 general elections.

“Naturally, there is going to be this kind of tension,” he said.

“Buhari left the presidency in 2023, and when you look at the outcome of the 2023 elections, the APC had only 5.5 million votes in the north. Where were the 12 million votes? But yet we won the election based on the system that was established, the structures in place, and the strategies deployed. What we need now is to re-engineer our strategies again now with his absence.”

Garba’s remarks underscore growing concerns within the ruling party about internal divisions, regional discontent, and strategic uncertainties ahead of the next election cycle.

He stressed the need for the APC to embrace self-evaluation and rebuild public trust if it hopes to maintain relevance in 2027.
