President Bola Tinubu has named Bishop Matthew Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, Kaduna State.
The statement was made known by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy.
Along with Kukah, Tinubu appointed additional university principals. Prof. Qurix Williams Barnabas will be the Vice Chancellor, with Sanusi Gambo Adamu as Registrar, Ibrahim Dalhat as Bursar, and Prof. Daniel Abubakar as University Librarian.
Additionally, the newly formed Governing Council includes Mr. Thomas Etuh representing the North Central region, Chief Fabian Nwaora for the South East, Prof. Femi Taiwo for the South West, and Zarah Bukar for the North East.
The appointments were made based on the distinguished careers and leadership experience of the selected individuals, reflecting their commitment to advancing education in Nigeria.
President Tinubu urged them to provide visionary leadership and lay a strong academic foundation for the university as it prepares to admit its first cohort of students in September 2025.
The Federal University of Applied Sciences, formerly known as Nok University, was recently taken over by the federal government.
