Tinubu is Nigeria’s first true politician as president –  Sowunmi

Date:

Segun Sowunmi, former spokesperson to ex-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has praised President Bola Tinubu as the first “real politician” to occupy the office of Nigeria’s president.

In a recent interview on TVC News, Sowunmi contrasted Tinubu with former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Muhammadu Buhari, and Goodluck Jonathan, claiming they were not true politicians in comparison.

Sowunmi’s remarks came as he acknowledged the challenges facing the opposition under Tinubu’s leadership.

He noted that with the president’s political acumen, it is becoming increasingly difficult for opposition parties to effectively challenge his administration.

“The opposition has its work cut out for it under this government,” Sowunmi said, highlighting the strategic political positioning of the president.

He said: “In the present dispensation of the APC, President Tinubu-led federal government, the first thing we need to accept and which we are accepting now is that our work is cut out for us. President Tinubu is the first real politician to have won an election and become president.

“Obasanjo and Buhari couldn’t call themselves politicians because they were soldiers. Jonathan couldn’t call himself a politician because he came in over the misery of others, but Tinubu is a politician.

“We must have a way to bring about quality minds to think about this democracy, vis-à-vis this opposition play.”
