In a decisive move against ISIS, President Donald Trump announced today that he had ordered U.S. airstrikes targeting a senior ISIS attack planner in Somalia, resulting in the deaths of “many” militants.
The airstrikes, which were carried out early this morning, specifically targeted the individuals believed to be hiding in caves, Trump stated on his Truth Social platform.
“These killers, who we found hiding in caves, threatened the United States and our Allies,” Trump said in his post, detailing that the operation was a success, with no reported civilian casualties.
“The strikes destroyed the caves they live in, and killed many terrorists.”
While Trump did not provide specific names or exact details on the location of the operation, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth confirmed that the airstrikes were coordinated with Somalia’s government and carried out by U.S. Africa Command.
An initial Pentagon assessment suggested that multiple operatives were killed, and no civilians were harmed during the operation.
The president also emphasized that the senior ISIS planner had been a target for several years but was never acted upon under the Biden administration.
“Joe Biden and his cronies wouldn’t act quickly enough to get the job done,” Trump asserted.
“I did! The message to ISIS and all others who would attack Americans is that WE WILL FIND YOU, AND WE WILL KILL YOU!”
The operation follows a similar mission in 2023, when U.S. Special Forces, under President Biden, killed a senior ISIS leader along with 10 other militants in northern Somalia during a raid on a remote mountain cave complex.
