Umahi urges south-east to support Tinubu’s re-election, says zone’s presidency not 2027

Date:

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has called on the South-East to back President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, stating that while the region will one day produce Nigeria’s president, the time is not yet right for 2027.

Umahi’s appeal was made in a statement addressing an online publication titled “The Politics of Asphalt: Why is the South East Missing from the Map?”.

The Minister dismissed the report as “misleading and inaccurate,” arguing that it was a political ploy to portray the Tinubu administration as sidelining the South-East in infrastructure development.

“I understand that politics is now in the air and the chosen path by some persons is to deceive unsuspecting members of the public, look good before the people as one fighting for them and close both eyes pretentiously over the great and selfless infrastructure development Mr. President is doing all over the nation,” the statement read.

The former Ebonyi State governor revealed that he has instructed all regional directors of the Ministry of Works to return to project sites nationwide.

Their mandate is to compile a comprehensive list of inherited and new projects, which he says will demonstrate the “huge works” Tinubu is undertaking across the country, regardless of political affiliations.

Umahi further asserted that Tinubu is using “fair distribution of infrastructure to reunite Nigerians and renew their hope,” concluding that “only those who open their eyes will see the light of change in Nigeria.”
