WHO expresses regret over U.S. decision to withdraw from organisation

Date:

On Tuesday, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), expressed deep regret over the United States’ decision to withdraw from the global health body.

This announcement follows a dramatic move by U.S. President Donald Trump, who signed an executive order officially pulling the U.S. out of the WHO.

The decision marks a significant shift in the U.S.’s relationship with the international health organization, which has been at the forefront of global efforts to tackle health crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Tedros emphasized the importance of global cooperation in addressing health challenges and underscored the WHO’s role in providing support to nations worldwide.

His remarks reflect the organization’s disappointment over the U.S. exit, given the country’s historical leadership role in global health initiatives.

The statement read: “the World Health Organisation regrets the announcement that the United States of America intends to withdraw from the Organization.

“The organisation hopes that Washington will change its decision.

“We hope the United States will reconsider and we look forward to engaging in constructive dialogue to maintain the partnership between the USA and WHO, for the benefit of the health and well-being of millions of people around the globe.’’
