In a sincere address at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reaffirmed his steadfast dedication to promoting national unity and advancing collective progress.
He stressed that no one, not even the President himself, holds a position above the nation of Nigeria.
Tinubu delivered this impactful message during a Sallah reception attended by a delegation of residents from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), led by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The President’s speech focused on the core principles of governance, reminding the assembly that power is a temporary responsibility bestowed by Allah, and called for humility and a leadership focused on serving the people.
“I’m just a custodian of your trust. Power comes from Almighty Allah, and He commands us to use it righteously, with compassion, and in accordance with His teachings,” President Tinubu said, underscoring the responsibility of leaders to act in the service of the people.
Reflecting on the recent Ramadan fasting and the ongoing Lenten season, Tinubu highlighted the critical values of discipline, tolerance, and collective responsibility that underpin a prosperous society.
He remarked, “We began with prayers, and we end with prayers. Through discipline and supplication, we learn to share and uphold family values that unite us as one nation.”
Praising the leadership of Minister Nyesom Wike, the President lauded his contributions to the transformation of the FCT, particularly in infrastructure development, civil service reform, and urban renewal.
He recognised Wike’s efforts in addressing long-standing issues such as property rights, the rehabilitation of abandoned projects, and significant improvements to public services, including healthcare and education.
“The healthcare facilities are being upgraded, teachers are being rehabilitated, and essential services are being delivered to the FCT residents. Thank you, Wike, for your dedication,” President Tinubu said.
Emphasizing national unity, the President called on Nigerians to put aside personal ambitions and embrace peace, inclusivity, and harmony, irrespective of ethnic or religious differences.
He reminded the audience that the lessons of Ramadan—sharing, compassion, and support for the less fortunate—should guide the nation’s collective efforts.
“We must continue to live by the lessons of Ramadan, sharing in both times of joy and hardship, and believing that Nigeria is greater than any one of us—myself included as President,” Tinubu stated, urging citizens to prioritise the nation’s well-being over individual interests.

Noting the remarkable collaboration between Wike, a southerner, and the northern part of Nigeria, President Tinubu celebrated the power of Nigeria’s diversity as a source of national strength.
“Nyesom Wike is not from the North, yet he has effectively worked in the heart of northern Nigeria. This is a testament to the unity and potential that our diverse country holds,” he said.
After the event, Minister Wike shared his appreciation for the President’s recognition, expressing gratitude for the support.
When asked about being called “Mr. Infrastructure” by Tinubu, Wike responded with humility, saying, “I feel very happy that my boss has confidence in me. Public acknowledgment from the President is an encouragement to continue the work we’ve been entrusted with.”
Wike also reassured FCT residents that his administration would not relent in delivering transformative projects. He promised that the next phase of development would be even more ambitious, with ongoing efforts to ensure continuous improvement in the capital territory.
“The committee is working, and you can expect even greater achievements than before,” Wike declared.
