The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State has reacted to the resignation of its 2023 presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, describing the move as unexpected but not one that poses any threat to the party’s stability.
The state chairman of the party, Barrister Ahmed Shehu, acknowledged Atiku’s political relevance but emphasized that the PDP’s strength lies in its deep-rooted national presence and not in any single individual.

“The former Vice President is undoubtedly a great asset, but our party has a strong nationwide structure. We remain a big, winning force,” Shehu stated.
Addressing speculations that the PDP’s base in Atiku’s hometown, Jada Ward 1, had shifted allegiance to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Shehu insisted the reports were unfounded. He affirmed the ward’s continued allegiance to the PDP.
“The PDP in Jada remains as it has long been, to the best of our knowledge,” he said, explaining that any significant movement of members would have been formally communicated to the party’s state office in Yola.
Atiku’s exit became public knowledge after a copy of his resignation letter circulated on social media platforms on Wednesday.
