ADC’s Sergius Ogun says party will dismantle APC rule in 2027

Date:

Sergius Ogun, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Edo Central Senatorial District by-election, has expressed his confidence in the party’s capacity to disrupt the political status quo in Nigeria by 2027.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE News, Ogun claimed the ADC is positioned to become the major political alternative and voiced concern over the current administration’s approach to dissent.

“The ADC right now, as you know, is the only opposition party in this country,” he asserted.

“What the government in power today wants is they just want everybody to roll over and then they will write the 2027 result. And we are saying it ain’t going to happen. It will not happen in this country. The country belongs to all of us.

”With the next general elections drawing near, Ogun insisted the ADC coalition is focused on providing a real choice to Nigerians.

“We know we have not had good government from the people in power today, and we will send them packing,” he declared.

He further criticized the state of governance under President Tinubu, suggesting that the current political environment is increasingly hostile to dissent.

“So ADC is a child of necessity. It had to come up,” he explained.

“People that knew this president very well kind of envisage that this was going to happen, that they’re going to stifle opposition in this country.”

Ogun, who previously served two terms in the House of Representatives under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), emphasized that his decision to switch parties was driven by ideology rather than ambition.

“I am someone that have strong convictions. When I believe in something, I go for it,” he said.

He disclosed that he turned down a third term opportunity in deference to the zoning arrangement within his constituency.

His exit from both the PDP and Labour Party, he noted, was due to unresolved internal divisions and unmet commitments. On the political terrain in Edo Central, Ogun described the area as generally peaceful but warned of growing intolerance by those in authority toward opposition.

“I’ve not, for so many years now, fear files have been deleted in my life. So coming out to run for office is a sacrifice that I have made,” he stated. “If the cost of saving the people, anything happens, then that’s it.”He also spoke about persistent security challenges in Esan land and highlighted efforts he initiated during his time in the National Assembly to address the problem.

“We have approval to build a police barracks in Uromi,” he said. “We are still raising money to begin to build the accommodation… but security is a huge threat in that area. I have farms. I’m not able to go to my own farms without security.”

Ogun cited his legislative track record in delivering development to his constituents: “In my eight years in the House of Representatives, as an opposition member, I brought in over 43 billion worth of projects into my constituency.

Looking ahead, he outlined plans to sponsor legislation targeting agricultural transformation, including the creation of a commodity hub and boosting rural infrastructure through private sector involvement.
