After Six Years, Dino Melaye Wins Legal Case Against FG and Inspector General

Date:

Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the Abuja High Court on Monday acquitted former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, of all charges brought against him by the Federal Government.

The legal case, which spanned six years, centered around accusations of providing false information about an alleged assassination attempt on Melaye’s life in 2017.

Melaye shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), stating that Justice Oriji had cleared him of the charges, which were initially filed by the Attorney General’s Office on January 31, 2018. The charges stemmed from an investigation into the supposed assassination attempt in his hometown, Ayetoro-Gbede, Kogi State. Melaye had pleaded not guilty to the charges on March 1, 2018.

The case faced several delays, including the passing of the original presiding judge, Justice Aromeh Akogu, during a church service on December 31, 2017.

Melaye had also made multiple accusations against the Kogi State police command and government, alleging further assassination attempts, which were denied by state authorities. One such accusation occurred in July 2018, when he claimed the Kogi police tried to kill him after an incident involving his security details in Mopa. He also alleged another conspiracy in March 2019.

In celebration of the court’s ruling, Melaye took to social media, expressing gratitude for his legal team’s efforts and his unshakable faith in divine justice. He wrote, “Justice served after six years. Justice delayed is never justice denied. God alone be praised.”

Melaye also boasted of his legal victories, declaring, “SEN. DINO MELAYE 12 – FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND IGP 0. 12 CASES ALL WON BY GOD.”
