APC north-central wants party’s chairmanship after Ganduje’s exit

Following the resignation of Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday, the APC Forum has called on President Bola Tinubu and senior party stakeholders to allow the North-Central region to produce his successor.

In a statement released on Saturday in Abuja, the Forum’s Chairman, Saleh Zazzaga—who also served as a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 general election—described Ganduje’s departure as a timely chance for the party to correct what he called a historic marginalization of the North-Central zone

“We had consistently maintained that the position of National Chairman should remain in the North-Central to complete the tenure of Senator Abdullahi Adamu,” the statement read.

Zazzaga recalled that the Forum had pursued the matter legally, but later chose to back down to avoid destabilizing the party.

“We even went to court to pursue this demand. However, when the National Executive Committee (NEC) ratified Ganduje’s appointment, we chose to suspend the agitation for the sake of the party’s stability.”

With the position now vacant, he emphasized that the APC must seize the moment to ensure justice and balance within its leadership structure.

“The resignation has presented a golden opportunity for the party to do the right thing, for fairness, justice, and equity. The North-Central played a critical role in the 2023 elections and deserves to be recognized accordingly.”

Rejecting any notion that the request is based on emotion, Zazzaga stressed the North-Central’s leadership capacity and commitment to the APC’s continued success.

“This is not just a demand based on sentiment. The North-Central has capable hands that can lead the APC to greater electoral victories. Returning the chairmanship to the zone will consolidate the party’s progress and stability.”
